Only rarely does the leader of our parent organization, the American Humanist Association, stop in Denver long enough to meet our members. But, this night is one of those rare occasions! David Niose, a Massachusetts Humanist who took over the presidency of the AHA this year, will be in town for just a couple of days, but we managed to schedule a meet, greet and eat.
The event will take place at 8:00 on Thursday, December 3, at the restaurant "Brio" in Cherry Creek. (The late hour was chosen because of an earlier talk on that evening which several of our members will likely attend.) We will meet in a side room of the restaurant, which is located at 2500 East 1st Avenue, next to Cherry Creek Mall. The regular menu for the restaurant, a national chain with very good mediterranean cuisine, will be available, although dining is not mandatory. After dinner, David will speak for a few minutes about his plans for the AHA.

Sorry, this Meetup is FULL.

The Humanist Book Discussion group has been an ongoing collaborative effort between HOC and DAFT (Denver Atheists and Freethinkers). Due to the popularity of the group and the increasingly difficult task of coordinating RSVPs from two separate Meetup groups, we have decided to create a new Meetup group for the book discussion group.

The new group is organized by Barbara and is a private group, so you will have to be approved for membership. To become a member, you will need to be a dues-paying member of HOC, DAFT, or both groups, or intend to become one. Here is the link to the new group: http://www.meetup.com/Denver-Humanist-Book-Group/

We will still be posting the book discussions as events on the HOC site, but you will have to RSVP through the new Meetup group. Also, automated emails will be turned off for these events, so you will only get the initial email announcing the event.

Here is the information for the December meetup, which can be found here: http://www.meetup.com/Denver-Humanist-Book-Group/calendar/11876966/

Victor Stenger will be speaking at the HOC on the evening of December 13. He'll be speaking about his two books published this year: Quantum Gods: Creation, Chaos, and the Search for Cosmic Consciousness released May 2009 and The New Atheism: Taking a Stand for Science and Reason released September 2009.

A few of us decided that we would like to read one or both of the books prior to the HOC talk. Due to member interest, for this book group meeting, we'll focus on The New Atheism, saving Quantum Gods for a future discussion.

This will be an informal meeting with lower attendance, as several members of the book group prefer to wait to pick up copies of the books at the HOC meeting. Please note the different date and time!
