SUMMARY:Philorum - Altruistic & Selfish Tendencies in the Balance
DESCRIPTION:The Sydney Humanists & Humanitarians\n\nThere exists two distin
 ct models for how one should concern life\; both of which have their advoca
 tes. Ethical Altruists would emphasise the virtue of being concerned for ot
 hers whilst Rational Egoists would emphasis the virtues of being concerned 
 with oneself. I draw upon psychology to explore personalities and examples 
 of where there are imbalanced tendencies towards concern for others (e.g. a
 ltruistic suicide) and towards oneself (e.g. narcissism and psychopathy). T
 he balance is found in enlightened self interest and through development of
  compassion and wisdom.\n\nNote: This is not an official Meetup\, but an ex
