I'm interested in releasing people from the idea that without religion, humans won't help each other unselfishly.
I found a great research paper at http://biology.plosjo... Basically they set up the same situation with babies and with chimps. They had an unfamiliar human reach through some bars to reach for a stick. The stick was just out of his reach, but easily in the baby or chimps' reach. The babies and the chimps helped the adult by handing over the stick without any offer of reward. It was only a little bit of effort to help an intention they could recognize, so they did. |
