I must admit that name "progressive humanists" looks quite good. But what would others think of expanding the group name even more to... "The Sydney Progressive Humanists and 'Smart Volunteers' society? Or something to that effect.

Maybe 'The Sydney Progressive Humanist Volunteers'? I understand the 'smart' concept as per discussion last Sunday, and I love the idea that it's an engagement beyond reading and talking, but throwing flowers to ourselves calling us 'smart volunteers' could give the wrong impression.

I think I prefer 'Modern' to 'Progressive' as a differentiating adjective.
Here are definitions of the two words from http://wordnet.prince... Modern - belonging to the modern era - relating to a recently developed style - ahead of the times - used of a living language Progressive - favoring or promoting progress - favoring or promoting reform (often by government action) - taxes: adjusted so that the rate increases as the amount of income increases - advancing in severity The first two meaning aren't too bad but there are other connotations. Let me know your thoughts. Edited by User 3,285,388 on Sep 10, 2007 6:29 PM |

I still prefer 'Progressive' as is it less cliché than 'Modern', whatever the true global meanings of those words are. Definitely 'Progressive Humanists' sounds better to me than 'Sydney Humanists', which is limited and too local.
