Last time we met in a meeting room at the Freed-Montrose Library, but parking was such a pain, and getting a room was such a pain, that we decided to not go that route. Going to a place like Borders allows us more freedom to hang out for as long as we want!!! :) We like coffee and cakes, right?!?!

There is no agenda right now. We are still trying to build and meet the community! Just come meet us and we'll figure it out from there! We have great ideas and company!!

This club looks at issues relating to religion. This includes discussion about problems with religion and its institutions and leaders. It also includes discussion of what elements of religion may be important to human culture. The question, "what is religion?" is explored, as well the history and future of religion. Relevant subject matter might also include critiques on faith-based thinking, superstition, religious violence, and dogma.

Here we gather to discuss the ideas in a different book each month. Unlike a typical book club, the presenter for that month will give an overview of the book and its ideas before discussion. So, while reading the book is helpful, it is not required to participate in a discussion of the ideas in the book. In addition, ideas might sometimes come from several tangent books or from other sources. The topics vary widely and are always engaging.

Our monthly gathering is the cornerstone of all HOH activities. We generally start with a reception and follow with a presentation and then questions and/or discussion. The presentations range from a wide variety of interesting topics. As with all of our meetings and events, the HOH Monthly Meeting is open to anyone to attend! To keep up on the planned topics, see www.HumanistsOfHouston.org/gathering.htm

Note to all:
Please be aware of our ongoing Canned Goods Program! We are asking folks to get into the habit of picking up just ONE extra can when grocery shopping, then bring them to the monthly city-wide Gathering. They will be donated to the End Hunger Network.

Note to parents:
Child care IS available at the Monthly Gatherings! Please RSVP each time and mention you are bringing children, so we know to alert our child care volunteer.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SATURDAY! :)

We've Sensed It. We've Seen The Signs. Now? It's Happening.

The Happening is an 2008 American apocalyptic film written, co-produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel.

Join our group as we attend opening night of M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening". We'll be meeting in the lobby at 7:30.

In addition, some of us are going to dinner first at 6:15 at Fuddruckers (3929 Southwest Freeway near Weslayan) on the opposite (south) side of 59 from the theater (north), and then going to the movie. Please keep your RSVP specific and updated so we know who all is coming. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions!!

Expect to pay approximately $10 for your movie ticket. If you are running late, please call someone to make sure that you can get a ticket and then later reimburse that person. For this reason, please only RSVP yes if you are sure you will attend, otherwise you will owe that person $10.

You can call Julie at 832-292-3070 with any questions.

Cost: $10.00
