Hi Everyone!
We are a vibrant group of rational people who live in NC. We began meeting in 2005. In 4/07 we voted to become a chapter of The American Humanist Association. You may become a member of our local chapter, or both groups. The first step to join the local group is to sign up to be a Meetup member by joining this group, #182, online. This will get you on the email list, and is how we communicate with everyone. Please see "About Us" for more info on Humanism and the AHA.
We welcome skeptics, agnostics, atheists, and all who question organized religion. We invite open minded folks who don't know what they think about religion, but wonder and want to learn what it's like to live without it, using common sense and ethical behavior as their guide.
If you'd like to become a voting member now, a membership application is available here. Go to "About Us", then go to "latest added page."
Our meetings on the 2nd Sunday of each month consist of a discussion or lecture from 5PM to about 6:15PM, followed by a social hour with a pot luck supper. We also have several social events a year, like picnics, a Winter Solstice party, and other family friendly events.
Speaking on January 10, 2010 Humanist meeting will be Doug Pendergrass, a local Unitarian Universalist and Independent Theater Arts producer. He will talk about, and present clips from, his 2009 original stage production: "The Rights (and Wrongs) of Mary Wollstonecraft. Read more
