Our monthly meeting this month will be "Growing Freethought in a Faith-Based Society".
Religion in American is a sensitive topic. Some people demand that it be part of the public square and even preferred by the government over secular or rational views. In such a culture, practically any declaration by humanists and other freethinkers can be construed as offensive by someone. But if we believe our philosophy benefits humanity, isn't it important for others to hear our views? Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association, will discuss how to unite and grow our movement in this faith-based society.
Roy Speckhardt is executive director of the American Humanist Association where he actively promotes the humanist perspective on progressive political issues. He’s appeared on CNN Headline News, Fox News, numerous national radio shows, and has spoken to dozens of local humanist groups across the country. He also serves as a board member of the Humanist Institute and the United Coalition of Reason and as an advisory board member of the Secular Student Alliance. He holds an M.B.A. from George Mason University and a B.A. in sociology from Mary Washington College. He is one of the main reasons for why the AHA has more than doubled in the last few years.
Join us for this important meeting with a social hour and pot luck supper buffet afterwards. Please bring a dish to share, soft drinks provided, BYOB allowed.
