I just started college again and I would very much like to found a new non-believers/Aheist/Humanist club. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Where are you going to school, DAX? If local I would be happy to help, if not I still would but on a very limited basis. Clem's suggestion is well taken, meetup could work, but at some cost out-of-pocket. The other idea would be to start a free blog, either on Blogger or Wordsmith. Actually, Blogger would be better, it's easier, so I'm told.

That way, you could print a flyer and you would have someplace for folks to go to get information and sign up for things. Not as tailored as meetup, but it could work. If I can be any help, let me know.

Thanks. I'm at Cape Fear in the architecture program. I'm also taking a metals art class. I am learning so much. I'll catch up with you soon. As I understand the school's club rules, Meet Up may not be the best bet. For example the club is required to have an advisor and hold regular meetings at school. I like the idea of free electronic/web meeting tools.

Hi Daxx,

Given faculty sponsorship, you can always start a chapter of the Secular Student Alliance, the collegiate division of the American Humanist Association. I can put you in touch with the necessary people if you like, as can Mike Werner. The only real problem with that, besides the amount of work and organizing involved, is that two-year schools have correspondingly high turnover (from both graduations and other departures), and so having the group outlive your stay there might be easier imagined than performed.

You could look into yahoo groups, that was the easiest, free way our Myrtle Beach group found. When you set up a group through them you have a discussion board & calendar that can send info to all group members. There's also places for photos, polls, links, etc. It works out well for a free site. Good luck! Facebook is also another option.
