My 4 year old said bless you after I sneezed and then asked what does 'bless' mean. She then linked the word to blessing which she said they do at preschool before they eat. She said we should saying a blessing at home too. I searched for some secular blessings (I'm not verbally creative on my own) on the net and told her we could say some words of thanks before we eat too. I told her I didn't know what bless means b/c I need to understand it better myself first and then give her a secular alternative.
How do you explain your beliefs to your children? Do you have secular alternatives to blessings in your home?
Are there any appropriate readings for preschool age children that explains humanism or atheism?

Thank you
Jackie
